563 Km of coastline set in the warm, tranquil, turquoise waters of the Persian Gulf, it is little surprise that there is no shortage of places where you can take a dip or layout and top up your tan.

If you are prepared to be a bit adventurous and in some places drive off-road, secluded, sandy beaches are free to enjoy. Probably, the most popular are at Khor Al Adaid (the inland sea), Sealine Beach, Dukhan or Simaisma Beach. When going off road always take precautions. Have a suitable 4-wheel drive vehicle, if possible, go with another car, take plenty of water and food, let people know where you are going and what time you plan to get back, don’t drive off road in the dark. All common sense, but you would be surprised how many people don't follow this advice and get stuck. Being stranded in the middle of the desert probably isn't something you want to add to your bucket list!
Maldives in Qatar?

For a complete get away experience within an easy boat trip distance of Doha, Banana Island is a great option. For QAR395 you get transportation, pool and beach access.
Private Beaches
In and around Doha all beaches are privately owned, and you will be required to pay a day fee to use their facilities. These include.
I highly recommend the Beach House for families with small children, as it combines a play area with good food, a giant sports screen and the beach.
Hotel Beaches
Beach fronting hotels in Doha will usually allow day visitors for a fee. This will give you access to the pools and beach at the resort.
For families I recommend the Waldorf in Lusail, just outside Doha. It has a miniature water park which keeps the children happy even in the hottest months. Other hotels include:
· Four Seasons
· Grand Hyatt
· Hilton (Doha and Salwa Beach)
· InterContinental Doha Beach
Prices vary, with some allowing a reduced rates for ladies during the week and some of the entry fee being able to put towards food and beverages purchased at the resort.

Privilee Membership

For those of you who want a more regular visit to a beach and are planning to stay in Qatar for an extended period, then subscribing to a Privilee membership may be an option to consider. With Privilee you get access to some of the best 5-star hotels in Qatar, to use their beach, pools and gym on a daily basis. What I found really useful was membership allowed me some complimentary or 5 and 10 days guest passes for a fee. A great way of treating visiting friends and family to a luxury Doha experience.
Whatever way you choose, the opportunity to feel sand between your toes and warm clear, calm water on your body is yours in Qatar. Don’t forget to wear sunscreen!
